The large rectangle can hold a number of text ads (as well as images), so a visitor has some choice in regard to which ad takes their fancy.

But what format you decide to choose in the end is up to you. There is no ideal AdSense ad format because there is no ideal website. Websites comes in all shapes and sizes and the best format for them can’t be determined until some small amount of experiment as been done.

The best AdSense ad format is one that works well with the existing design of your site and one that achieves the highest CTRs.
